Addiction during Christmas

by | Dec 21, 2018 | Audio/Video, The Addiction Solution Podcast

If you are someone who identifies as “in recovery” everywhere you look you’ll see and hear dire warnings about how tough the holiday season is for you. In support group meetings the weeks and months leading up to the holidays are always filled with discussions on how stressful and dangerous this time of year is for a special class of people known as addicts. “Newcomers” (people in “early recovery”) are encouraged to attend multiple meetings per day. In many cities around the country and world there are meetings available around the clock on and around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. But are the holidays actually more stressful for people who are “in recovery”? Are the holidays a “trigger” for relapse? And are these warnings helpful or hurtful? Beware, what you believe often becomes your reality.
